MOUNDVILLE MAN CHARGED IN HORSE’S NEGLECT; DEPUTY INVESTIGATED FOR MISCONDUCT
A Moundville man has been charged and a sheriff’s deputy is being investigated over a horse that allegedly died of neglect over the weekend.
Matthew Mattherson, 28, was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals on Oct. 30. He has since been released on bail. A court date has not been set.
The Hale County Sheriff’s Office also says an internal investigation has begun in response to allegations of misconduct by a department deputy, to determine if policy and procedure were followed in the case.
The sheriff’s office says no more information will be released about the incident until the conclusion of the internal investigation.
