MOUNDVILLE MAN BEHIND BARS AFTER DUI ARREST, INJURING OFFICER
A 31-year-old Moundville man is behind bars after police say he drove drunk and caused a wreck that injured an officer.
Dwight Contrell Tanker was arrested early this morning and was charged with driving under the influence, possession of a pistol when he’s not allowed one, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless endangerment and second-degree assault.
Moundville Police Chief Toby Banks told the Moundville Times that MPD got a call near 4 a.m. saying a man was passed out behind the wheel at the intersection of Market Street and Alabama Highway 69.
When police arrived, they found the vehicle was nearly in the road and blaring music, then found Tanker unresponsive inside. Tanker woke up and began pulling out into the road after officers tapped on the car. He drove across the street to a Petro station, nearly hitting the gas pumps
Soon after, Banks said police forced Tanker out of the vehicle and put him under arrest, but not before one of the officers suffered what Banks called a minor injury.
Banks said they found a pistol, marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
Tanker was taken to the Hale County Jail, where he remains on a $42,000 bond.
