MORE THAN 500 STUDENTS ATTEND YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

TUSCALOOSA – More than 500 11th-graders from around West Alabama crowded into the Bryant Conference Center this morning, getting inspiration from local leaders.

The 14th annual Youth Leadership Conference featured speakers from around West Alabama including University of Alabama Basketball Coach Avery Johnson,  Executive Director of the Druid City Garden Project Lindsay Turner, Executive Director of the Division of Youth Services
for the City of Birmingham Mayor’s Office Cedric Sparks, attorney and motivational speaker Elizabeth Huntley and Army veteran and motivational speaker Maj. Brad Israel.

Alabama Power’s Western Division Manager Joe Brown said the event is all about developing students’ minds and aspirations.

Brown said the event strives to motivate kids and impress upon them the value of staying in school, the process of getting a job and character-building.
