Around 4 p.m. Friday, Northport Police Department officers responded to a strip mall at 3617 McFarland Blvd. on two men shooting at each other.

Witnesses say one vehicle had pulled in behind another in the parking lot, and the two drivers were talking to each other and then started shooting at each other. One of the cars left the scene, but was later located at a residence nearby. The driver of that car turned himself in at the Northport Police Department. He was then turned over to the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit for questioning. After processing the scene and interviewing several witnesses, they charged 22-year-old Mikheal Christopher Gilliam with two counts of attempted murder, one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, and one count of discharging a firearm into an unoccupied dwelling. More charges are possible. He is in the Tuscaloosa County Jail pending $150,000 in bonds.

There were three people in the vehicle Gilliam shot into: the driver, a 31-year-old woman, and a 15-year-old woman. No injuries were reported. Investigators collected more than 30 shell casings and one firearm.

The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene and has not been located. If anyone has any information about this person or his/her location, call Tuscaloosa Crime Stoppers at (205) 752-7867.
