MONTGOMERY SHERIFF’S OFFICE RECEIVES BODY CAMERAS
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is among the latest law enforcement agencies in Alabama to receive its first shipment of body cameras.
Sheriff Derrick Cunningham placed his order of 86 body cameras for patrol deputies and correction officers in January. He says that he’s pleased the six-month wait is over.
Cunningham said the wait was due to the county’s relatively small request of 86 cameras. Other departments across the nation were asking for shipments of many hundreds, causing a backlog.
The Montgomery newspaper reports that the camera order was placed in the midst of civil unrest and protests in Ferguson, Missouri, although Cunningham had researched the possible purchase of the cameras well before the outcry for more transparency.
