BRANDON, Miss. (AP) – Wildlife officials in Mississippi say a man has been injured during an encounter with an alligator near a lakeshore park where several other alligators have been removed this month.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks’ Alligator Program Coordinator says the man was swimming with a group in a reservoir near Lakeshore Park in Brandon on Friday when an alligator was spotted nearby.

The official says the alligator later swam between the man’s legs and scratched him. The animal was captured and euthanized.

The Alligator Program Coordinator says three other alligators, including one that was 9 feet long, have been removed from nearby waters in recent weeks.
