One young Tuscaloosa woman is using her leadership role to promote anti-bullying.

Miss Alabama Baylee Smith, 19, said something needs to be done to protect our children. Statistics show that 1 out of every 5 children admit to being a bully or said they’ve bullied someone before.

Smith, who won her title this summer, said she’s using it to try and lower the numbers. She said she wants to visit schools and speak with students about the importance of kindness and self worth.

“It’s really disheartening to see that kids can be that mean,” she said. “And it’s a lot easier for someone to be that mean over social media than it is for them to be mean in person.”

She said she thinks empowering children as they grow up can help them handle any bullies in their life.

If you’d live to book Miss Alabama USA Baylee Smith for an anti-bullying effort or appearance, you can do so here.
