Metro emptying the shelters with free adoptions
By WVUA 23 News Reporter Sarah Erickson
Interested in adopting a new furry family friend? Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter is combating overcrowding by offering adoptions for free this week.
The Empty the Shelters event is sponsored by the Bissell Pet Foundation, and because of them, you can adopt any cat or dog through the shelter through Oct. 10 for the low, low cost of $0.
Metro’s goal is adopting out at least 100 pets by the end of the event. As a bonus, October is Adopt a Dog Month.
“The shelter is always at capacity, so anytime we can have an event like this where the adoption fees are sponsored we can help move animals into loving homes,” said TMAS Event Coordinator Becki Pate. “So this is a perfect time to come down. We have a variety to choose from.”
Interested in adopting? Metro is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and they’ll be open Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. as part of the event.
Can’t adopt? Consider signing up for TMAS’s foster program, where you can help dogs or cats in need get a much-needed break from a shelter environment.
Can’t adopt or foster? The shelter accepts donations of all sorts, including items from their donation list, by purchasing items from their Chewy or Amazon wishlists, or by making a monetary donation. Or see even more ways you can help TMAS right here.
