While the number of pet adoptions has increased during the coronavirus pandemic, some people are actually surrendering their four-legged friends.

This is mostly because they cannot care for them during these financially troubling times. To cut down on this problem, the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter has partnered with the Humane Society of West Alabama to create a pet pantry.

Tina Miller of the Humane Society said no one should ever have to choose between feeding their pets and feeding their family.

“You can donate either money over the internet, which is safe, or you can order from your favorite place like chewy.com and have it sent there,” she said. “Or you can get a bag or two or and take it over to Metro. They will take any of those and make sure they get to the right people.”
