Many families are gearing up for Memorial Day weekend, which means more cars hitting the road. With gas prices lower than usual this summer, travel experts say families are traveling more, and Alabama’s State Troopers want those drivers to stay safe on the roads.

Alabama has had a record number of traffic-related deaths so far this year, so before you hit the road, State Trooper Reginal King has a friendly reminder.

“We’re using all our available resources to create a highly visible officer presence with hopes of deterring some of the dangerous behaviors that we’ve seen, such as drinking and driving, distracted driving, speeding, following too close and things of that nature,” King said.

King said the troopers’ main goal is keeping traffic fatalities as low as possible.
