TUSCALOOSA, Ala- As temperatures begin to drop, cold and flu season is just around the corner.

Dr. Thomas Weida, Chief Medical Officer at University Medical Center, is urging everyone to get a flu shot.

“It is extremely important to get a flu shot this year. You don’t wanna have the flu and COVID at the same time,” said Dr. Weida.

Symptoms of COVID are very similar to Influenza.

Shortness of breath, loss of taste, headache, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are more commonly related to COVID.

If you start to experience symptoms, Weida recommends that you get tested.

“The good thing about the flu is if you catch it early enough, we may be able to treat it with medication,” said Weida.

As preventative measures, it is important to wash your hands, avoid others who are sick, and wear a mask.

This will help prevent the transmission of both COVID and Influenza.
