After a five-year hiatus, the DCH Foundation and McAbee Construction are once more teaming up as hosts for Takin’ Cancer for a Ride.

DCH Foundation Director of Development Casey Johnson said cancer affects nearly everyone in some fashion.

“Everybody knows somebody who’s been diagnosed with cancer, so you can definitely understand the trials and tribulations that someone goes through when they have this disease.”

The patient assistance fund helps those undergoing cancer treatment focus on healing.

“We don’t want somebody to have to worry about paying a power bill or water bill, or being able to get to and from treatment,” she said. “We don’t want that to be their worry. We want them to know that we are there to help, so their main worry is getting better.

The motorcycle-riding event begins Saturday at the Northport Civic Center at 10 a.m. The cost is $20 per bike. Riders will get going at 11 a.m., and they’ll travel around Tuscaloosa County until they end up at Rhythm & Brews at Temerson Square in downtown Tuscaloosa.

Rhythm & Brews will also be hosting a silent auction and several giveaways after the ride.
