Friday afternoon, Mayor Walt Maddox held a press conference at City Hall to discuss how the city is preparing for the anticipated storms on Saturday.

Starting at 10 a.m. all tornado shelters will open, regardless if there is a tornado warning or not. The city is prepared to go into full response mode if the weather calls for it.

Maddox said being ready for whatever comes is the best way to keep Tuscaloosa secure.

“We will be adding additional personnel: fire, police and public works,” Maddox said. “We will also be spreading our assets out, our key assets, certainly so we can mitigate if something were to happen our own ability to respond.”

Whether you live in the city or the county, you are encouraged to plan ahead for the weather and to not underestimate the storms. Click here to find your closest shelter.
