MAYOR AND CITY COUNCILMAN BRAWL AT CITY HALL

BIRMINGHAM- Things got heated at Birmingham’s City Council meeting when a fight broke out between Councilman Marcus Lundy and Mayor William Bell, leaving both with injuries.

According to the police report, Mayor Bell asked to speak with Lundy about a city matter when Lundy raised his voice and forcefully tried to keep Bell from leaving the room. Bell stated Lundy then grabbed him from behind and put him in a choke hold. Police Chief A.C. Roper told reporters Mayor Bell was being evaluated at a hospital following the fight. Councilman Lundy also was taken to a hospital. A spokeswoman for the mayor says an arrest warrant will be taken out on Lundy, but in a news conference, Council President Johnathan Austin said Lundy will be pressing charges as well.
