MASSACHUSETTS COLLEGE STUDENTS HELP WITH 4/27/11 RECOVERY FOR NINTH YEAR

For the ninth year in a row, a group of students and staff members from a small Catholic liberal arts college in New England has returned to Tuscaloosa to help rebuild what was destroyed in the April 27, 2011 tornadoes.

Much of the rebuilding around town is complete, but volunteers from Assumption College in Massachusetts keep coming. They’re here this week, working on a home on 24th Street in Northport with Habitat for Humanity.

“We really like to branch out and be involved in other communities and just like, stay committed to helping out communities like Tuscaloosa … It’s really powerful,” volunteer Oliver Bugbee said.

Groups are organized by Assumption College’s SEND Service Program, which allows students to participate in community building projects all across the country.
