MAN WHO SHOT TUSCALOOSA POLICE OFFICER ARRESTED, CHARGED

The man facing capital murder in the shooting death of Tuscaloosa Police Officer Dornell Cousette is now in police custody.

Luther Bernard Watkins, 20, was taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail around 6 p.m. Friday. He is held there on no bond. Watkins was transported from Birmingham after treatment at UAB for his gunshot wounds.

Watkins is accused of shooting and killing Cousette Monday night while Cousette attempted to arrest Watkins, who was wanted for robbery and other charges.

He was transported to the jail in Cousette’s handcuffs.
