TUSCALOOSA: Renato Luberto Savage is in custody after he attempted to run over a West Alabama Narcotics Agent last night. Savage, who was arrested last month on several narcotics offenses, was spotted on Kauloosa Avenue near Peco by agents. Officers knew he was violating his parole in Mississippi from the previous arrests.

When officers stopped Savage near 35th Street, a law enforcement vehicle was in front of the car Savage was driving. As officers approached him to take him into custody, Savage accelerated his vehicle at one of the agents and fled the scene. The targeted agent was not injured, but did fire his weapon out of fear for his safety and the safety of his fellow officers.

<p>After attempting to hit the agent with the car he was driving, Savage turned west onto 35th Street where he appears to have encountered water on the roadway that caused him to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a flooded ditch near Bambarger Wrecker Service.</p><p>Before the vehicle submerged, Savage was taken into custody. Narcotics were recovered from the investigation, including cocaine and prescription drugs.</p><p>Homicide investigators charged Savage with Attempted Murder. Narcotics Agents charged him with Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Controlled Substance, Illegal Possession of Prescription Drugs, and Attempting to Elude. The total bond is $114,000 on these charges. Savage will also have the parole violation from Mississippi as well as bond revocations related to his December arrests in Tuscaloosa County.</p><p>The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is reviewing the incident regarding the officer discharging his weapon in the line of duty.</p>
