MAN SETS WIFE ON FIRE DURING ARGUMENT, CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER

HUEYTOWN, Ala. (AP) – A Hueytown man was arrested after authorities say he doused his wife with a flammable liquid and set her on fire.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office tells media outlets 38-year-old Manfred McCarroll was arrested Monday. He is charged with attempted murder, first-degree arson and first-degree domestic violence.

Sgt. Mark Didcoct says Hueytown police and firefighters were called to a home on Oct. 28, where they found McCarroll and his wife both badly burned. The two were taken to a hospital.

After questioning, detectives say they learned the fire erupted during an argument between the couple. Didcoct says McCarroll was also burned when he set his wife on fire. She remains hospitalized.

McCarroll was being held on bond in the county jail. It isn’t immediately clear if he has an attorney.
