MAN KILLED IN OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING

Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead at the Chateau Apartments Thursday night in Tuscaloosa. Here is a press release from the Tuscaloosa Police Department on what happened:

       On August 20, 2015 at around 6:00 pm, Tuscaloosa Police responded to an assault call in the 3400 block of E University Blvd at Chateau Apts.  Upon his arrival, a TPD officer made contact with the suspect.  An altercation ensued between the officer and the suspect.  The officer deployed his taser, but it was not effective in stopping the suspect’s assault.  The altercation ensued, and at this point, the officer drew his firearm, fired, and struck the suspect.  The suspect died at the scene.  The suspect is a 50 year old white male.  The officer received treatment for injuries received during the altercation at DCH medical center.  The suspect’s name is being held pending notification of the next of kin.  As with all death investigations, the Tuscaloosa County Homicide Unit was contacted, and they are conducting an investigation into the shooting.  It will be handled by investigators from the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office independent from the Tuscaloosa Police Department.
