Man facing murder charges after shooting early Dec. 26
A Tuscaloosa man is facing murder charges in the wake of an early-morning shooting the day after Christmas.
The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit said Tuscaloosa Police officers were dispatched around 2 a.m. Dec. 26. When officers arrived they found 39-year-old Christopher Gilbert, who had been shot several times. Gilbert was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center, where he later died.
After processing the scene and interviewing witnesses, the Violent Crimes Unit got a warrant for 30-year-old Calvin Lee Willis on charges of murder and of being a person prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Willis was apprehended and was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $150,000 cash bond.
Investigators said they’ve linked Willis to another shooting that happened recently, during which someone received minor injuries. Willis was charged with attempted murder in that shooting, and other charges may be coming, authorities said.
The motives in the shootings remain under investigation.
