MAN FACING ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES AFTER WEDNESDAY EVENING STABBING

A man is recovering from non life-threatening injuries at DCH Regional Medical Center after sheriff’s deputies say he was beaten by his child’s mother’s family and stabbed by his child’s grandmother’s boyfriend.

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Department said it happened around 9:30 Wednesday evening in the 12000 block of Century Road in Berry. When authorities arrived, they said they found the 44-year-old victim with several stab wounds.

Tuscaloosa Homicide Unit investigators said they learned the victim had gotten into an argument with his child’s mother, and that’s when the mother, her own mother (the child’s grandmother), and the grandmother’s boyfriend jumped the victim and began beating him.

Authorities said that at some point the child’s grandmother’s boyfriend, Russell Lane Junkin, 51, grabbed a box cutter and began stabbing the victim in the back, arm, neck and head.

Junkin was arrested on charges of attempted murder and taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
