Man dies in Lauderdale County marine incident Saturday

A man from Luka, Mississippi, died over the weekend after his boat struck a support column under a bridge in Lauderdale County.

The incident happened on Pickwick Lake entering Second Creek near the Waterloo area in Lauderdale County.

Ricky D. Rodgers, 63, was fatally injured when the aluminum fishing vessel he was operating hit the column on Second Creek Bridge. Rodgers, who was not wearing a personal flotation device at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vessel and pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Marine Patrol Division are investigating the cause of the incident.
