MAN DEAD AFTER CRANE ACCIDENT IN WALKER COUNTY

A man is dead in Walker County after the crane he was operating fell.

It happened around 8:15 this morning along the 1300 block of Highway 269, where the Alabama Department of Transportation is replacing a bridge that runs over Baker Creek Road.

Barney Creek Fire Department Firefighter Tommy Davis was one of the first on the scene.

“As far as I know, they just lifting a concrete piece for the bridge to set it in place and it just broke,” he said.

Walker County Coroner Joey Vick said the crane operator, Fred J. Clayton of Tarrant, jumped out of the crane as it began falling, and was crushed.
