MAN ARRESTED FOR ILLEGAL GUN SALE, ASSAULTING TWO OFFICERS

HOOVER, Ala. (AP) – Hoover police have arrested and charged a man they say assaulted two officers after he tried to sell a stolen handgun.

Capt. Gregg Rector tells local media that Sunday evening officers were dispatched to a call of a suspicious man, later identified as 37-year-old Adam Whitworth. Whitworth fled when he saw the officers, leading to a foot chase into a wooded area nearby.

Whitworth fought with the officers before finally being subdued. Two officers were injured and taken to the hospital.

Whitworth is charged with two counts of second degree assault, a prohibited person carrying a pistol and second degree receiving stolen property.

Whitworth was also arrested 2012 after barricading himself in an attic. In 2008, he was convicted of assault after police say he ran over a bicyclist.
