FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) – An Alabama man was arrested after someone threw paint on a Confederate monument that has been the subject of protests.

A sheriff’s official tells the TimesDaily of Florence that a deputy assigned to provide security at the Lauderdale County Courthouse saw a man splash paint on the monument Thursday afternoon.

The man ran away after seeing the deputy but was captured quickly.

And courthouse workers used a hose to wash away most of the paint.

Seth Jones Robinson of Florence is facing charges that include criminal mischief and trespassing.
