MAN, 80, ATTACKED WITH MACHETE, GUN; SUSPECT BEHIND BARS

A Hale County man’s family is looking for justice and another man is facing attempted murder charges after a brutal attack with a machete.

The attack happened at a farm in the Akron community, where victim 80-year-old Roy Tooson was landlord to the suspect.

Jeffrey Blount, who lived at the home on Tooson’s farm, is accused of attacking Tooson after he mentioned evicting Blount for not paying rent.

Hale County District Attorney Michael Jackson said that during the attack, Tooson tried using his handgun in self defense, but Blount took it and fired on him.

Jackson said Tooson is in stable condition, but recovering at an intensive care unit. Blount is in the Hale County Jail on a $99,000 bond.
