MAN, 30, DIES IN BIBB COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE CUSTODY

Bibb County authorities say a 30-year-old man in custody died in Friday after an officer-involved foot chase.

Deputy Kevin Lawrence with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Department said the suspect was a passenger inside a broken-down vehicle near Hickory Hill Road Intersection in Centreville.

Lawrence said that as patrol officers approached the vehicle, the suspect jolted out of the car. Officers gave chase into the woods, Lawrence said.

After a struggle, Lawrence said officers handcuffed the suspect and called an ambulance. The suspect was later pronounced dead because of cardiac arrest at Bibb Medical Center.

Lawrence said that during the course of their investigation it was discovered that the suspect has felony warrants in Tuscaloosa County.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Alabama Department of Forensic Science and the Bibb County Coroner are currently investigating the case. In addition, an outside agency will be assigned to the case, but that agency has not yet been selected.
