Maddox makes good on National Championship bet

Maddox Bet

Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox this week made good on his bet with the mayor of Athens, Georgia, following the University of Alabama’s defeat at the hands of Georgia during the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

Maddox and Athens Mayor Kelly Girtz made a friendly wager on the came for a good cause. If Alabama won, Girtz would donate money to the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative. But because Georgia won, Maddox is paying up and paying it forward, donating to the Athens Community Foundation.

“Mayor Girtz and the people of Athens, Georgia, congratulations on winning the College Football National Championship,” Maddox said Monday while donning a Georgia hat. “We know in Tuscaloosa it’s a great feeling because we’ve done it a lot. And I know the people of Athens, Georgia, are still celebrating an amazing win and one that was well deserved. And, we appreciate you keeping the championship in the SEC.”
