LURLEEN WALLACE BOULEVARD UPDATE: SOUTHBOUND RIGHT LANE CLOSING

The Alabama Department of Transportation is closing the right lane on Lurleen Wallace Boulevard southbound for nearly a month.

University Boulevard through 12th Street is affected, and the lane will be closed for landscaping.

The closure begins April 15 and lasts through May 10.

In addition, the third lane on Lurleen Wallace northbound will be paved in early or mid May.

Construction times may vary depending on weather or other restrictions, and all times are subject to change. The project is expected to be complete by late spring or early summer.

ALDOT is working on the project with the city of Tuscaloosa to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety for the 72,000 vehicles that use Lurleen Wallace Boulevard each day.

Drivers are encouraged to use 15th Street, Greensboro Avenue and McFarland Boulevard while construction is ongoing.
