Looking for a child’s COVID vaccine? DCH is not among your choices

Covid Vaccines For Children Cropped

Children ages 5 to 11 are eligible for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, but parents searching for children’s shots in West Alabama can’t get them from DCH Health System just yet.

DCH Marketing and Communications Vice President Andy North said the system’s COVID-19 team met last week and decided against offering children’s vaccines.

Their reasoning? Because pediatrician’s offices and pharmacies are better equipped to vaccinate children, and DCH remains understaffed.

“We are committed to doing whatever the community needs,” North said. “If the community needs it, if the volumes are there and pediatricians in the community are saying we really need some help with this then we will re-evaluate that.”

North said when the vaccine was approved for children 12 and older, there wasn’t much volume from that population at DCH.

Parents searching for vaccines for their children can ask their pediatrician or search vaccines.gov for providers.
