LOCALS OUTRAGED AFTER TWO BROOKWOOD TEACHER-STUDENT RELATIONSHIPS REPORTED IN LAST YEAR

Brookwood High School English teacher Katherine Nelson turned herself in to authorities for allegedly having a sexual relationship with one of her students. As folks may remember, this is not the first reported inappropriate student-teacher relationship we’ve seen come out of Brookwood High School.

In August of 2015, hundreds of explicit images of former Brookwood teacher Joe Petrey and a student were reported to the Tuscaloosa County School System.
In September, Petrey was indicted by a Tuscaloosa County grand jury for engaging in a sex act with a student under the age of 19.
Katherine Nelson now faces that same charge. The recent incidents have Brookwood residents outraged and worried. Engaging in a sex act with a students under the age of 19 is a class B felony punishable 2 to 20 years in prison.  Both Joe Petrey and Katherine Nelson are currently out on bond. They are no longer teaching at Brookwood High School. If convicted, they will have to register as sex offenders
