Local high school students participated in the Forerunners Program, a program that gives students a glimpse of what it’s like to be a firefighter.

Wednesday, March 20, more than a dozen 11th-graders suited up and received hands-on experience in learning about leadership, emergency situations and overall fire safety. Forerunners is a high school leadership program run through the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama.

The nine-month program is for high school juniors. The program is designed to train students to become more aware of issues and concerns in the community, and to become more effective leaders.
