LOCAL ELEMENTARY HOSTS TEAM COLORS DAY TO PROMOTE BULLYING PREVENTION
Story by WVUA 23’s Maria Blough.
Students across the Tuscaloosa County Schools system wore the colors of their favorite teams to celebrate bullying prevention month.
“When you are part of a team, you are part of a family,” said Holly Tanner, the school counselor at Myrtlewood Elementary School. “Just like in our classrooms, we talk about that our classrooms are like our families, and when one person is not having a good day, we can all be there for them. Same thing with a team. If one person is having an off day, we can be there to help cheer them up.”
The event is meant to highlight that though people may love different teams, they can all come together to solve bullying.
Myrtlewood is hosting spirit events every Friday during this month. Tanner said they put an extra emphasis on bullying awareness in October, but they work with students on this issue throughout the whole year.
