Three businesses in Tuscaloosa County were honored during the 2019 Retail Day luncheon.

Ugo Convenience Delivery in Tuscaloosa was named the GEE Emerging Retailer of the Year. Jennaration Boutique, with locations in Northport, Tuscaloosa and Birmingham, won the Customer’s Choice Award. Anders Hardware in Northport was named one of the 2019 Alabama Centennial Retailers.

J.P. Lipscomb, the manager of Anders Hardware, said that the company owes its success to the dedication of the Anders family and the support of the community.

“We know that the community is behind us, and we love being here,” Lipscomb said. “We’ll continue to do it as long as we possibly can.”

Anders Hardware has operated in the Tuscaloosa area for 110 years.

More than 70 nominations were submitted to a panel for consideration for the Alabama Retailer of the Year Awards. The winners stood apart from the competition because of their reliability and customer service.

“It’s something that you don’t see often, especially because you have the internet and things like that, where you don’t have that one-on-one connection with your customers,” Lipscomb said. “That’s what we look forward to every time we see someone come through the door.”

This year’s ceremony marked the 20th presentation of the Alabama Retailer of the Year Awards.
