LOCAL AUTHORITIES OUT IN FORCE FOR HOLIDAY SHOPPERS, TRAVELERS

The holiday season is a time of giving, but it’s also the time of year thieves come out in droves.

So local authorities are doing what they can to stem the tide of break-ins and burglaries at year’s end.

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office created a special burglary detail several years ago that’s launched each year during the holiday season. Normal patrols are enhanced with extra units, meaning deputies saturate neighborhoods and residential areas and deter potential crime with their presence.

Lt. Jack Kennedy with the TCSO said homes are generally broken into during daytime hours while vehicles are hit at night, so residents should always lock up and leave no valuables in their cars.

“We would like to let the public know they might see an increased presence, and that is us trying to do our jobs,” Kennedy said.

In addition to the extra patrol units, TCSO is running its helicopter over busy shopping areas like Midtown Village and University Mall.

As always, local authorities encourage everyone to say something if they see something, and report any suspicious activity immediately.
