LITTLE LEAGUE TEAMS WORKING ON ENSURING CHILDREN’S SAFETY
As people speculate about the fate of fall sports, little league teams are paving the way. Team parents are working to ensure the safety of both children and fans.
Sports medicine physician Dr. Brett Bentley said that everyone, including coaches, parents and even players themselves can take preventative measures to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Bentley said teams should communicate about health and safety expectations. He suggested that they meet before the season to discuss the importance of staying home if they feel unwell.
He said that children should be taught to wash their hands, sneeze or cough into their elbow and not to touch their face.
“It’s easy to clean things like bat handles…[and]you really want to encourage them to use their own mitts, their own gloves, have their own equipment,” Bentley said.
