Legislative session preview

The Alabama Legislature returns to Montgomery this week for the start of the 2023 legislative session. The session begins Tuesday and will last more than three months.

Several proposals that failed last year are being revived by lawmakers, including the ever-present attempt at passing a state lottery.

State Sen. Gerald Allen said he does not think any gambling bills will pass.

“I want the state’s money to be spent wisely for the citizens of Alabama,” Allen said.

One bill the legislature plans to discuss is repealing the state’s tax on groceries.
