Kiwanis Club honors Farmer of the Year

The Kiwanis Club of Tuscaloosa held its annual Farmer of the Year program Monday at the District Room in Tuscaloosa.

This year’s award recipient was Ronnie Smith, who’s been a poultry farmer for almost 20 years.

This year marks the 69th year that the Kiwanis Club of Tuscaloosa has selected a farmer for this prestigious honor.

Smith said he’s endured some challenges over the years as a farmer.

“We have had our ups and downs,” he said. “We have had some challenges with the weather being cold and hot. Plus, the price of gas going up and down. But we are blessed, and we managed to make it all the way through.”

Smith’s honor coincides with National Farm-City Week, which is a time to celebrate and recognize farmers for their contributions to our society.
