Local artists will fill the Kentuck Art Center courtyard selling their creations at Kentuck’s Saturday Art Market this Saturday, Aug. 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is free to the public, but local artists will have items from crochet potholders to glass art to jewelry for sale. Artists will be at their tables to display their work and answer any questions about it.

There will also be face painting, a free art activity and Rita’s Italian Ice.

Kentuck’s Program Manager Mary Bell said this event gives the community a chance to connect with local artists.

“Our mission is to perpetuate the arts, empower artists and engage the community, and we feel that this does all of that,” Bell said. “We think it’s really important to connect the community with local artists and to provide the community with something to do.”

Bell said the event draws people to downtown Northport, and she encourages people to come to the Art Market, visit businesses in the area and go to Northport Farmers Market.

“We really view it as something valuable to contribute to our community and our local artists,” Bell said.

This is Kentuck’s second Art Market of the year, and they will host two more this year on Sept. 17 and Nov. 5.

Artists can rent space at the market for $10. They must apply, be approved and pay the fees before the market. There is also an optional $10 table rental and a $1 metal chair rental for vendors.

While applications for this week’s market are closed, applications for the next two markets will be open until a week before the market date.
