JASPER USING $200K GRANT TO EXPAND PUBLIC WATER SYSTEM

Gov. Robert Bentley announced on Sept. 30 that Jasper will receive the $200,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission.

The city will use the grant to add a one-million-gallon water tank and water lines to Jasper’s 500-acre Bevill Industrial Park.

Jasper Mayor Sonny Posey said the upgrades will help Walker County as a whole.

“It’ll serve this park and our park which is just behind it,” he said. “It’ll serve everybody within the city limits of Jasper because it’ll upgrade the system, and not only that, we handle our supply of water to nearly every municipality in the county. So it’ll also help all the citizens of the county as well as the city of Jasper.”

ARC grants are available to all counties located in Appalachia, which applies to 37 counties in Alabama.
