MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey this week made visits to two Alabama prisons to thank state corrections officers for their work.

The governor said the role of a corrections officer “may just be one of the toughest jobs in the country.”

The visits come as the state faces an ongoing prison crisis, including a shortage of officers.
