Classes for the 2020 fall semester don’t start until Aug.19, but University of Alabama students are already in the process of moving back to campus. The university is spacing out move-in days to make sure there aren’t too many people on campus and in the dorms at one time, but the first wave of students is already settling in.

Most students are now shopping for cleaning supplies, last minute move-in items and enjoying some last meals with their families before they have to head back home.

WVUA was able to talk with Lauren Peek and her father who were finishing up moving in.

“It’s really exciting just to be able to finally come,” said Peek. “Not knowing if we were going to be able to move in and being able to move in, it’s something you look forward to for almost all of high school. So, since it’s actually here it can be stressful, but it can be exciting too. It’s always fun.”

Her dad Shane Peek had mixed emotions about the day.

“It’s bittersweet,” Shane Peek said. “I was a freshman here myself and went all the way through and earned my degree and so the excitement of her getting to come down and experience it, I’m excited for her. Obviously she’s my only daughter though it is bittersweet.”
