BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Police say a federal inmate was gunned down in a targeted killing outside an Alabama prison reentry facility.

Larry Taylor was shot Saturday morning in Birmingham. The 47-year-old was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Birmingham police Lt. Rod Mauldin says Taylor was targeted by a gunman as he was leaving the facility.

Mauldin says the assailant approached Taylor in a parking lot, fired several shots, then fled in a white sedan.

The shooting happened outside the Keeton Correctional Facility, which is operated by Keeton Corrections for the federal Bureau of Prisons.

The center aims to help inmates reenter society.
