Bankers are considered essential workers, and with many people facing financial hardships brought on by the the pandemic they’ve been even more in demand.

Staff at Alabama One Credit Union have closed the lobby, but are still services through the drive-thru or online. Mortgage Lending Manager Kelly Denard said most people need help with home and car payments, so they have been helping with refinancing and deferral options.

“We’re offering refinances right now and home equity and second mortgages,” Denard said. ‘”Refinance rates are really low right now, so now is a good chance to take advantage of those low rates and look at a refinance you can save anywhere from $100 to $400 or $500 on your monthly payment.”

Director of Retail Operations Myke Brown said they’ve also launched an auto refinance campaign, allowing members to make no payments for the first 90 days along with paying out a percentage of the loan balance in cash.
