Get active for a good cause and participate in the 19th annual Canine Classic 5k run on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Hosted by the Humane Society of West Alabama and the Tuscaloosa Track Club, the competition is the longest-running annual race of its kind in the area.

Proceeds from the 5k benefit the Humane Society of West Alabama and go toward typical expenses for the shelter including pet food, medical care and other expenses.

The shelter is 100% volunteer-run and completely funded by donations.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the race begins at 8. You may preregister here or sign up on-site the morning of the race.

Racers will be provided with fruit, snacks and drinks, and door prizes, swag bags and awards will be handed out after the race.

The event is happening at Kentuck Park in Northport. While furry friends are allowed to watch, only humans are allowed to race.
