National Puppy Day took the world and our hearts by storm on Wednesday.

Adorable pictures flooded social media and many shared their stories of man’s best friend.

The day also brought awareness to the growing problem of stray dogs in cities across the country. The Humane Society of West Alabama strives to maintain a comfortable life for dogs who do not have a home.

The Humane Society is a no-kill, all volunteer, nonprofit organization located in Northport. If residents are interested in adopting an animal, they must complete an application form. The adoption fee is $75 to help cover vet costs for the shelter animals. If you adopt an animal that has not been spayed/neutered, there is a $100 refundable deposit.

Visit the Humane Society’s website for more information on adoption and volunteering.
