HUBBARD TESTIMONY HEATS UP ON DAY 2
By Jack Royer
Witnesses in the second day of House Speaker Mike Hubbard’s ethics trial brought crucial testimony for the prosecution.
Hubbard’s former chief of staff Josh Blades took the stand Wednesday, recounting conversations he had with the indicted speaker in which Hubbard said he had “100,000 reasons” to help a company obtain a patent. Blades said he felt uncomfortable because he assumed Hubbard was referring to money.
Political experts expected the trial to take several weeks, but WVUA 23 analyst Steve Flowers said he’s surprised at the speed this trial has progressed, with damaging testimony coming in the early days.
Many more state legislators and political figures have been subpoenaed to testify in the trial that will resume in Lee County.
