Every year on June 14, the American Red Cross observes World Blood Day to recognize, “the importance of a safe and stable blood supply and the donors who make it possible.”

To increase donations, every person who donates blood to an American Red Cross location during the month of June will be entered into an Elvis Presley-themed prize contest.

Winners will receive a VIP trip to Graceland for two, round-trip airfare to Memphis, a three-night stay at The Guest House and tour, a custom-wrapped Gibson Epiphone guitar and more.

Every person who donates will also receive a $5 e-gift card to a merchant of choice.

You can donate blood at the following locations:

  • Bibb County:
  • Fayette County:
  • Pickens County:
    • Wednesday, June 22 from noon to 4 p.m. at Gordo City Hall (25226 Highway 82)
  • Tuscaloosa County:
    • Tuesday, June 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Insuresoft (1701 McFarland Boulevard North)
    • Thursday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (733 James I. Harrison, Jr. Parkway)

According to a press release, nearly 2.5 million people donate blood and platelets every year to the American Red Cross.

But donations are not as high in the late spring and early summer as they are other times of the year.
