Annie Lavender and her family were able to walk into their new home for the first time on Friday morning.

Their new house, constructed by Habitat for Humanity volunteers, was built on the same site of Lavender’s former house, which burned down several years ago. Lavender had lived her entire life on that property before her house burned down.

“We were able to honor the service of [Lavender’s] parents and their leadership,” said Ellen Potts, the executive director of habitat for humanity. “… We are so happy that she’s going to have her new home to move into this weekend.”

Lavender is excited for the new start that the home provides.

“I’m so thankful for it,” Lavender said. “I would like to thank God and everybody who worked on my home.”
