Holy Spirit

For the first time in school history, Holy Spirit will play in the Girls 1A Softball State Tournament. The team will join other local schools such as American Christian Academy, Hale County and Brookwood in Montgomery for the tournament this weekend.

“It is just exciting to say the words, ‘We are going to state,’ because that is something we have never been able to do,” senior shortstop Lilly Laubenthal said. “I’m excited to play all of the teams, but I am excited to see every one and come out strong.”

The Holy Spirit team has risen to new heights by a very young core as the team has two seniors on the roster while in the circle, Holy Spirit is led by an 8th grade pitcher. Coach Jeff Laubenthal said he is confident in his group after they swept the competition to win the Class 1A East Central Regional.

“I think we are going to play really hard,” Laubenthal said. “I think these girls are peaking at the right time; we played our best game against Verbena in the regional. I think they are playing loose and I think we can be a dangerous team, I really do.

Holy Spirit will take on Spring Garden in the first round of the state tournament on Friday, May 17 at 9 a.m.
